Everyone should feel, think and live, as complete owners of their lives. No matter their appearance, their religion, their sexuality or their life style. At the end of the day, none of it matters. We are all human beings full of ideas, talents, weaknesses and an endless list of adjectives. Either way, we deserve the same opportunities, same rights, and definitely, freedom.
I’ll do my best trying not to categorize much, neither to attack the opposite sex. Because, that’s not today’s purpose… This time I’m inviting women to concentrate and avoid humiliating our same group. What I’m trying to say is: Ladies, we must support each other, believe, and listen to ourselves with empathy and not with prejudice, neither with those typical demeaning phrases, which only work for belittle the worthiness of each of us. Why am I saying this? Because if what we’re trying to reach is equity, there’s no worst way to lose it, than by a woman judging and criticizing another, or them judging each other.
I understand we’ve these many deep-rooted (awful) common phrases, and years have passed by and we still listen to them, even in an unconscious way, we found ourselves repeating those same phrases once again. Either way, during this effort of reaching social unity and equity, it has become a responsibility for each of us to change all this behaviors; As some may say “Acceptance is the first step”. We must accept that we’ve been wrong, that sometimes we do speak our minds out loud without previous thinking, and that the easiest way out is not by criticizing others… Once we fully understand, that’s when changes begin. It is almost our obligation. For our own wellbeing, let’s stop doubting from us, let’s stop justifying that any type of abuse or injustice it’s because “probably she asked for it”. Let’s stop questioning others integrity, because somehow we consider ourselves exempts of being in a similar situation.
Life is uncertain and full of changes, and no matter what, we all breath the same oxygen, day to day with the same sun, under the same moon and as far as I know, we still share the same planet.
There are endless cases, contrary situations and without a doubt, thousands of exceptions for everything… but to feel, think and speak further than what’s only negative, it DOES makes a difference. At least trying, it DOES means a lot, and definitely, it DOES plays a part on change.
It is an uneven and long way, but it’s also our everyday duty. It is a commitment with our power to contribute to be better.
I like to think that at least for a moment, we’ve felt love, braveness, strength, sadness, and all that… those whole feelings everyone experience. Intangible but completely known and understood by each of us. I like to think this, because it is a way to reconsider ourselves as equals, it means accepting that empathy is our biggest responsibility before we speak or react.
This is why I’ll have to insist, to all women, ladies, colleagues, friends, mothers, executives, girls, students, to all of you… us, we cannot give up to making a difference, to create that impact, to reach attention and be heard, but most important to understand and listen to each of us. We cannot denigrate our worthy, diverse and strong group. There are already enough obstacles in the way for us to add more… and for men, this is a cause for both, do not make it harder… join us, support this collective effort, do it for your friend, your sister, your mother, or for that important woman in your lives. Be a positive part of this, do it for them.
Without a doubt, life is complex and any other social interaction it’s even more… we change, we’re sometimes passionate, and we’re difficult, but we’re all human beings and that means we must keep our feet on the ground. While we’re still sharing this world, we must keep up, we must continue on changing, growing, and living, as owners of our lives.
