Are you still looking how to get through this 2020? Then, that makes us two…

These have been complicated and unpredictable times. Endless things happening … In the meantime, I decided to focus on what I can control… and I made some space for reading. As a form of distraction, entertainment, and even escape.

You never know what can be discovered by reading a book. We find a part of ourselves that yearns to be in that bay, having those super powers, discovering events that we never imagined. Knowing first hand a main character. Almost hating the author for writing that horrendous ending, or even smiling slightly as we advance to the last chapter.

There will be books that fit your style, and sure, there will be others that you discard just by looking at the title.

However, here I share some that I liked the most:

By clicking on the title, you can directly access the review on Goodreads, and learn about the story, author, reviews from other readers and more.

  1. The Five Dysfunctions of a Team: A Leadership Fable – Brief, with examples of real cases and very useful if you are interested in improving communication with your team.
  2. Outliers: The Story of Success Motivational, inspiring and with the touch of Malcom Gladwell.
  3. Contagious: Why Things Catch On – How does something go viral? Jonah Berger explains it in 6 reasons.
  4. Mindset: The New Psychology of Success One of my favorites, on the perspective of continuous learning, growth and determination.
  5. Diccionario de las cosas que no supe explicarte – Funny, simple, fast, honest (and romantic).
  6. ¡Sálvese quien pueda!: El futuro del trabajo en la era de la automatización – With so much technology, what ‘s next?
  7. A Lifetime of Secrets: A PostSecret Book – An anonymous postcard project, with secrets never told before.
  8. Dilo bien y dilo claro – To communicate better, write concisely and effectively.
  9. The Art of Gathering: How we meet and why it matters – I loved this one, Priya Parker teaches us how to make any meeting different and engaging.
  10. Storytelling with data: A data visualization guide for business professionals – A book on how to improve your communication graphically, visually and effectively through data.
  11. Habits of a Happy Brain: Retrain your brain to boost your serotonin, dopamine, oxytocin, endorphin levels – With this one, we understand our emotions, actions and how to appropriate it, and embrace them all for good.
  12. Woman on the verge of a nervous breakdown – I laughed out loud at every anecdote. A girl recounts her experience attending therapy for the first time.
  13. Amores adúlteros…el final – Creative, fun and thought-provoking.
  14. Hija de la Fortuna – I was immersed in an adventure around the time when gold was discovered in California. It involves an adventurous girl who no longer knows whether to follow love or find herself.
  15. Sapiens: A brief story of humankind – Amazing. This book captured me from the beginning, a great recommendation to understand where we were and where we are going … if there are answers to it.

As you will notice, many of this year focused on a work/professional matter. Although there are a few months coming before closing 2020, there is still time to integrate some books of various genres.

My next one is Homo Deus, by Yuval Noah Harari. He’s the same author for Sapiens: A brief story of humankind.

So, which were your books this year? Do you have any recommendations you’d like to share?
